Event Horizon
Event Horizon is a PowerCenter Pro 180 computer, purchased in June 1997 during one of Power Computing's last firesales.

Event Horizon, currently retired, served as my main computer for 2.5 years in college. After being retired, it briefly served as a local file server and CD-R burn station. Currently, it functions as a stand for my UPS.

In its prime, Event Horizon contained:

  • IBM PowerPC 604e running at 180MHz on a 60MHz system bus
  • 96MB RAM
  • Adaptec 2930B Narrow Ultra SCSI-3 20MB card
  • 16x TEAC CD-ROM
  • 4x Write/8x Read Matsushita CD-R
  • A TurboTV TV tuner
  • 9gb UltraStar drive.
  • Seagate Barracuda 4gb drive
  • A 2gb IBM SCSI-2 drive
  • 4-button Kensington ThinkingMouse.
  • 19" ViewSonic PS790 monitor, driven by a Radius PrecisionColor 24/1600 video card
  • A 14" NEC Multisync II monitor running off of internal video, until the monitor died.
  • HP DeskJet 870Cxi printer
  • Zip drive

After being replaced by tacyhon, the TurboTV card was replaced with an Adaptec 10/100 ethernet card.

Additionally, Event Horizon's motherboard, CPU daughter card, and CPU fan have been replaced due to some problem that was causing something to overhead. Its power supply has also been upgraded to 250 watts (thanks Chris!), and I replaced the case fan with a Radio Shack fan that used less power and provided more air circulation.
