We returned to Erelhei-Cinulu to get healing and share our (somewhat minimal) amount of gathered information with the Drow priestesses. Agatha presented the head of the elf-like creature we had discovered, and they agreed to use a speak with dead spell to ask it questions for us.
We sold the drow the deck of cards we found. I don't think we got nearly enough for it, but we all got a useful magic item. I was able to get an somewhat powerful amulet of health. I'm feeling a bit more vigorous now, so it's certainly doing its job.
The priestesses were also able to identify the insignia we took from the drow that attacked us as being one of one of the drow houses in favor of law.
The drow performed some ceremony on the decapitated head and asked it a list of questions Agatha and I provided. We learned that the being claims that its race are the "Rulers of Mir", all members of its race are considered to be of noble birth, and the name of its house is Malbon. Quite an interesting development, this is. We also learned that it came from the city Alwhare, and it was born in "The Dreaming City."
After concluding our business in Erelhei-Cinulu, we returned to the underground cavern. Some more investigation into the chasm revealed a gigantic spider web along the wall. Taking some precautions, we followed the spider web until it led us to the entrance to an underground city, Mercane.
We came across several drow, lizardmen, and a mind flayer standing near several buildings. At first, they were somewhat hostile, but Agatha managed to get on their good side. By making enemes of them and then bribing them to go away.
Sigh.
After the drow (guards of the city) and the rest of them left, we investigated (and not terribly intelligently, at that) the warehouses standing near the enterance to the cavern. What a folly that was. We broke into one of the doors. Inside was a small room with a door on the left. After I unlocked the interior door, we triggered a trap that dropped two oozes on us. They were reasonably easy to kill, but were still rather disgusting. Well, they would have been easy to kill, had Agatha not fireballed the building.
Despite the burning building, Agatha opened the interior door and no sooner did she stick her head in was she dragged into the room by the roper that was hiding inside. We went in to rescue her (all of us but the dragon, who was somewhat annoyed that Agatha dropped a fireball practically on top of it), and were treated to attacks by other oozes in the room and a dunk in the acid bath in the center of the room.
We managed to become somewhat disorganized and didn't execute an effective battle strategy, and this resulted in combat taking far too long and us taking far too much damage. In the end, we managed to escape from the room and the roper and the oozes burned to death from the fire Agatha started. Quickly sifting through the smoldering rubble, we found a lockbox with almost 800 platinum pieces and three thousand gold, and a silk patch with a dozen gems of lesser quality. All in all, not a bad haul, but we've now made ourselves potentially very noticable and are going to have to pass through town quickly and slyly to avoid any further trouble.
