Poems: No Hate
No Hate
by John Bafford
September 11, 1998

You know I love
the woman you love
You're upset
over the things I've said.
Believe me, I understand all too well
the pain you must be feeling.

My heart was empty
three months ago
when she really entered my life.
How can you turn away
a girl so beautiful
so loving
so caring
as if to make everything else irrelevant?
It's hard.
Too hard.
Incredibly hard.
And I hope you realize what you have.

Emotions often make little sense.
Mine are no exception.
And the same ones that make me incredibly happy
are the same ones that make me incredibly sad.
She is special.
No one like her in the world.
And I'm afraid I'll lose her if I let go.
But let go I must, if I'm to survive
the sea of emotions I'm treading in.

So please, bear with me.
These things take time.
And understand that I'll always love her.
No one can replace her at all.
And carry a warning with you, and remember it well:
Although I am rational
and reasonable
and calm
emotions cloud my judgment.
And if she gets hurt
and you're to blame
there will be hell to pay.
